When it comes to first dates, there are certain dos and don’ts to keep in mind.
By following these tips, you can increase your chances of having a successful and enjoyable first date.
DOS:
Punctuality: Please arrive on time or a little early to respect the time of your date.
Dress for the occasion: Please dress in a way that makes you feel safe and comfortable given the venue and planned activities.
Be a Good Audience: Show interest in dating by actively listening, asking questions, and participating in conversations.
Be Polite: Treat your date with respect and kindness, and consider their preferences, opinions, and boundaries. Don’t forget being kind to the waiter as well!
Show your personality: Share your interests, hobbies and passions to let the date feel who you are. Don’t try to portray yourself as someone you are not, because your date will sense that you are not authentic.
Be positive: Keep the conversation upbeat and positive by avoiding negative or controversial topics. We all have topics that we feel negative about, and sharing controversial topics is not a bad thing in itself. But keep those for later, not for the first date.
Payment offer: Generally speaking, women enjoy it if a man is being chivalrous and offers to pick up the tab. Ladies, remember to say “Thank you” (and mean it!).
DON’TS:
Be late: Being late for no good reason makes a bad first impression.
Overdose of alcohol: Excessive drinking on a first date can lead to poor judgment and inappropriate behaviour.
Distracted: Don’t look at your phone or distract yourself from your surroundings while on a date. It’s best to leave your phone in the car.
Talk About Your Ex: Talking to your ex on a first date can make a date feel uncomfortable or unimportant.
Becomes negative: Complaining and criticizing others can make you appear negative and unsympathetic.
Too intense: Don’t be too fierce or aggressive, and respect your date’s personal space and boundaries.
Rush something: Instead of rushing into physical things or speculating about the future, take the time to get to know the date and form a connection.
Remember, a first date is an opportunity to get to know someone new and potentially form a connection. By keeping these dos and don’ts in mind, you can help ensure the experience is enjoyable for you and your date.
So, be yourself, be respectful, and have fun! And even if the date doesn’t turn out as you hoped, remember that every date is a learning experience that can help you grow and improve your dating skills for the future.
